If I could give U-Haul negative thumbs, I would. This business has THE WOST customer service I have ever experienced. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Though I would smear sriracha sauce in my worst enemies eyes. IT IS THAT BAD.\r \r TL;DR:\r I was living in Southern California, my stuff was in West Sacramento, and I was moving to Portland, OR. The solution I arranged with U-Haul over the phone was simple: I'd drive my '95 Ford Explorer 400 miles up to West Sac, load up a small trailer, then continue to Portland. The bill was a modest $150ish. I booked it with no problems--I received confirmation emails with no problem--the day before I received a call confirming my appointment with no problems. So, I was surprised when I checked into West Sacramento (400 miles later) that U-Haul wouldn't rent to my model of Ford due to a ""high rollover risk"". No one at the store, including the entirely incompetent manager, was able to due any more than give me the corporate number and user me outside. How about YOU GUYS handling your own corporate policy fiascos! The only solution they (the corporate office people) were able to muster was to give me a discount on a box truck and car trailer--that cost was FOUR TIMES what I was quoted when I booked my reservation (excluding the impossible cost of disengaging my car's automatic transmission at 4pm on a weekend)! That is a bait and switch if I've ever seen one. Further, suppose I didn't check in to the West Sacramento U-Haul and decided instead to breach my contract with them, like they did to me? Then I would be charged a cancellation fee. Ludicrous.\r \r TO THIS DAY I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY FEEDBACK FROM U-HAUL'S MANAGEMENT! (*Note: I write this review 2 months later*) They obviously can afford to screw over their customer's do to their large network effects. It is for this reason that I recommend you to try Penske or Budget. My experience with Penske has been infinitely better with regard to customer service, and equivalent in cost.
