Worst experience I have ever had with a contractor, and I am a designer who deals with contractors on a daily basis. John Gutierrez the owner of Highland pools has no business being a pool contractor. He provides no oversight of the project, hires out all the work to sub-contractors who always arrive on site with incomplete or actually wrong information on what it is they are supposed to do. John was hired to remodel an existing pool, he told me we could remove all the decking around the pool and put grass in. When the inspector arrived he told us that we had to re-install all the concrete decking around the pool because it would make the pool structurally unsound if it is not there. John said he had never heard this and does it all the time. I told him to get his engineer to sign off on it, and his own engineer told him the same thing. So John has left a trail of pools across Los Angeles that are now in danger of structural failure. He promised me a 2 1/2 month construction schedule, 7 months and $30,000.00 later and my pool is still not complete. I told him no more money until the pool is complete and the building department has signed off on the completed project. So john filed a notice of lien against the property. The outstanding balance is only about $5000.00 and I have already paid him 30K . Run from this company, he is at best completely inept and at worst a dishonest con artist! The review below was obviously written by him or one of his family members. Check Yelp for a similar review of his work and the fact that the favorable reviews were removed because they were written by him.
