The Vet Assistant program at the Renton campus is good IF you have prior experience in the field. If you are coming in with no knowledge, its horrible. They try to cram so much information into 6 week sequences and it moves so fast that unless your brilliant or you spend hours after class studying, you wont retain much information. The grading system is a joke as well... its what they call a ""weighted grading system"", meaning that if u make straight A's on somethin worth 20% all sequence and you make a low grade on something that is 30% of your grade, you can kiss you A's goodbye! It's a waste of money in my personal opinion. I wish I had known how they were before i wasted 13 grand and 2 hours of driving time a day going there. Also, the program length says it's 9 months, It's not. It's more like 6 months. This includes 1, 6 week sequence in what they call career prep. Which that would be useful IF both teachers taught the same thing. It's the luck of the draw there, one teacher teaches math the other does not and she also does not give much instruction on assignments, hands them out, says do them, and leaves you alone with it. They you have 3, 6 week sequences in the actual Vet Assisting class. The teacher is great, However, the program is ridiculous. They teach you stuff that legally you CAN NOT do. Instead of spending so much time teaching people what they should be learning if they are going for tech, spend time on teaching people what they need to know for assisting, not everyone is going for vet tech. then there is the 6 week extern ship. I learned more in my first week in an actual clinic then i did the entire time in school. My advice to everyone thinking about going here for this... DONT. Save you time and money and either go somewhere else or get on the job training, which by the way is an option.
