Review content:
Worst nursing care I've ever experienced. No wonder it is the only hospital in the Lafayette, LA area that accepts TRICARE (military) insurance.\r
In the 32 hours I was there, there were only two of the 12 or so nurses that I dealt with that seemed to...1) care at all about what they were doing, and 2) know what they were doing. They were all very, very nice...but were about as competent as highly functioning retards. They're building that nice new facility on Ambassador Caffery which is great, but if they bring the same people over there it isn't going to be worth a damn. They didn't communicate with each other or my doctor. They didn't think that I may need some pain medication before pulling over 5 feet of packing gauze out of me that was packed while I was under general anaesthesia. They didn't think to show my wife how she would have to repack the wound twice daily for three weeks. The most common answer I got to any question was, ""I don't know."" They made me do stupid stuff like pee in a bottle so they could ""keep a record"" of how much I was urinating...but never came to empty the bottle or record how much I was urinating. All of this and I was in a room that was literally just in front of a nurses station on the 4th floor. Oh, and they prepared me for surgery in the recovery room! I got to see all these people coming back from surgery in all sorts of pain and discomfort as I'm getting ready to go to surgery. Talk about anxiety. I couldn't wait for them to put me under. Just a real unpleasant experience and I have been hospitalized before and experienced great care. The ONE compliment I could give them is that the ER was fantastic...nurses and doctors. Just hope they don't need to admit you.
