Review content:
This neighborohood icon has been around since 1954, and stepping inside is not unlike entering the WayBack Time Machine set for that year. There are pictures of autos of the era, Hollywood stars - especially Marilyn Monroe ( the wife of the owner collects them, and returning customers often bring her additions) - and a general feeling of the '50s.\r
There is little remaining of a dairy bar concept - which it was in the beginning, in a small building across the street from the present location - this is a diner that serves 3 meals a day, 6 days a week. The breakfast items are typical, and very good. The sandwiches and plates at lunch and dinner are also all very good. There are daily specials, and fried seafood items on Friday, including all you can eat shrimp.\r
The burger here is a large, thick patty with great flavor once well salted, and it comes off the grill with a little outside crust, which I really like. The Chili Dog here is simply outstanding, either all the way or leaving the slaw off. The slaw here is nice, not overly sweet, goes well on the dog. The chili is meaty with a very nice taste; the wiener is a typical southern style one, and the bun is soft. Botton line - the Burger & Chili Dogs are both destination sandwiches, and among the best in this area of the state.\r
The folks here are friendly, the owner talkative, the environment is pleasing. The speed out of the kitchen is not particularly quick, in fact it is slow, so we're not talking fast food here.
