This guy did a thorough check, and figured out the problem: I had dirty coils. This is a simple problem to diagnose. Unscrew panel, look at coils, see dirt. He also performed a leak test, which none of the other techs would do. Perhaps this is AHSWarranty policy dictating their behavior, but the test only took about an hour. Others have quoted me $1500 for the leak test -- wow, that's way too much. It's a $200 tool that they use to detect leaks. It shouldn't cost that much. Meanwhile, he also diagnosed that my system was overcharged -- too much refrigerant. (Because the other companies did not check for dirty coils, and that can give false-low readings on refrigerant levels.)\r
