My best friend just spent 3 weeks there and she had good and bad things to say about it and based on what I saw myself I have to agree. It seems to make a huge difference what area of the hospital you are in.Starting with the emergency room, I think that unless you come in an ambulance their plan is to leave you on a stretcher in the hallway for 5 hours and if you don't die then you need attention. My 50 yr.old friend, who has an extensive medical history, waited 4 hours in the hallway with absolutely NO attention while vomiting the entire time and constantly running to the rest room with diarrhea. No one gave her a second glance until she came out of the bathroom and collapsed into the arms of a volunteer. Then she was put in a back room on a bed until the next day which was the start of a long weekend. It was 4 days until she started getting some of the attention she needed from a doctor. During her stay she was on several different floors and in several different departments. She says the nursing care was ridiculous in some areas. It took forever to get a response when she rang her bell and mistakes were made constantly. In all fairness they were overworked and understaffed but some of them shouldn't be allowed to have someones life in their hands.Mistakes were definately made but they only got a slap on the wrist.Probably because they were needed too much to be let go.On the up side, the cardiac surgeon she had was top-notch as was the area she stayed in for the few days after surgery. She also raved about the dialysis unit. She said it all came down to the people and besides what I already mentioned it was a 60-40 mix with the 40% being less competent. So the bottom line is:If you want to gamble on your or your loved-one's health then BRH is the place to go.
