My mother checked in for stroke symptoms and was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer. They said she needed a biopsy on her lung to see what type of cancer it was. After they scheduled her for surgery to do the biopsy the first time, it was canceled due to improper staffing. Keep in mind she cant eat for 12 hrs prior and yadda yadda hoops... Of course if your dying on the weekend you have to wait until normal business hours to continue your treatment. We had to wait a few days to find out if we could schedule another test. Meanwhile, my diabetic mother was being fed hot dogs and potato chips for lunch and hamburgers and french frys for dinner! Along with the steroids to reduce the swelling in her brain, her blood sugar shot up over 600! I had to actually pose the question to the nurse, ""Do you think this is a good diet for her to be on?"" She quickly made a call to the cafeteria and added the restrictions, but how the hell does that happen? Why did it take two days and for me to show up to figure this out? Nurses... There are some here and there who really try and make an effort to do that little kindness or smile when they pass. Unfortunately, not many of them were assigned to my mother over these past few weeks. I read most of the other reviews and they are on point. Short tempered, slow to respond and for the most part, pissed they have to deal with you. Now, I'm not saying anything about the surgeon. He seemed very knowledgeable and professional. I'll also be the first to admit I know very little of the procedures other than, when explained to me by the doctor, there is about a 10-15% chance of a lung collapse while performing a biopsy. She just happen to hit that percentile. There are a host of other issues which we encountered. Such as: a nurse almost administering a dose of insulin which my mother is very allergic too and would have caused her to go into shock, during prep for a surgery she WAS administered another medication which she is allergic to (they give you a BRIGHT RED ARMBAND if your allergic to something and list it all on there, how do you work there and not look at that before beginning a procedure?!!!?!!) I could go on, but why? If you have to go to this hospital you better be conscious or have an advocate because they will make mistakes and if you don't have someone looking out for you against this place your in trouble.
