Frustrated patient - I see a few others are just as frustrated as I am with this group and their administrative abilities. I have been a patient for several years and was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Dr. Pomykala suggested that I go to their diabetes management class that is held once a month so I went to the regularly scheduled class last month. I arrived at 8:30 when I was told the class started - well it's regularly scheduled to start at 9, so that was 30 min of wasted time. The instructor Kristin Betts (I believe was her name) didn't get the class started until 9:20, so that was another 20 min of wased time. About 20 min into the class there was an electrical fire in the office and the building was evacuated. I realize this was beyond their control and I was patiently waiting with the other 6 participants for the ""all clear"" to go back to our class. It took about 20 min and we were heading back to the class when we were told that the conference room we had been in would not be available for us any longer. We would have to come back NEXT month for the class!! The first Wednesday of the month is the regularly scheduled day for the diabetes management class. Well, the instructor was not going to be available on that day so she told us that she would change it to the Tuesday before so she could still do the class. When I called the office to make the reservation for the class and make my appointment to see the doctor on the same day it turned into an ordeal. You can't just make one call because they apparently don't know what each other is doing over there and they have to send you to another person. I made my doctor appointment for 8am so that I could get to the class at 9am and only have to take time from work on one day. I then talked to someone else to book my reservation for the DM class - which they told me was going to be on the regularly scheduled first Wednesday. When I tried to explain to them that the instructor had changed it due to a conflict they told me that they didn't know anything about it. Go figure!! So they put me down for the regularly scheduled day and of course I missed it!!! I went in for my doctor appointment on Tuesday and back for the DM class on Wednesday and then they told me the class had been held the day before!!!! What a total waste of my time and effort to try and coordinate my trips. Not to mention the time I spent on that day just sitting in the waiting room waiting to be called back for the class - 45 minutes!!! No one at the front desk even came to check on me or went to check on the class. I had to go up to the desk and remind them I was sitting out there and THEN they checked with the patient advocate about the class. Oh, come to find out that class was held the day before - when I was there for my doctor's appointment!!!! No one felt it was important to followup with the reservation list like they do the doctor appointment list. When they called me to confirm I would be at my doctor appointment I even asked if the DM class was still happening - they had to send me to someone else! And when they tried to do that the line was disconnected. When I called back I was told the class was on Wednesday!!!! I have never been so frustrated with a doctors office in my life!! I really like Dr. Pomykala and I want to continue to see her, but that administrative staff needs to make some changes for the better to keep their patients. Otherwise, I'll be seeking a new physician and I can see others doing the same.
