Review content:
Sanpei is not only sushi. The sushi is MUCH better than most psuedo-Japanese restaurants, but many Japanese complain about the many sushi places and lack of izakayas. Japanese food is NOT all sushi and sashimi and most Japanese eat more often at izakaya than sushi places. Izakaya means a casual, pub-like restaurant where there are various kinds of food, grilled like yakitori and yaki-onigiri, sushi/sashimi, and even sausages & french fries. A wide mix of food to be eaten like dim sum, i.e. many small dishes to be shared between people.
I lived in Japan for seven years and Sanpei is more authentic than almost all ""Japanese"" restaurants in the area. The atmosphere was great, too, and service was fine, despite the whiny comments of another reviewer. Japanese dishes are served when they're ready in this type of place, buddy, not timed to come out together.
I'll be back...
Pros: Authentic, Friendly
