Total disappointment. Do not bother. Exorbitant pricing for Child sized portions of bland food with watered down NM chili.\r
I was excited when I read the News and Record article about this restaurant serving New Mexico chili. Having lived in Albuquerque for 20 years I am a big fan of NM cuisine and seldom have the opportunity to partake of it. This place is a joke: Exorbitant pricing for Child sized portions of bland food with watered down NM chili. Entrees come without rice or beans. A small scoop of rice is $3 extra, small (small) cup of beans $3 extra. Also, no chips no salsa no tortillas and no sopapillas. Chips and salsas cost an extra $8, 4 little rolled tacos, $8. I had to ask for salt and pepper as there were no condiments on the table. The waitress waited 10 minutes after we ordered to tell us they were out of Carne Adovada, the main item we came for, then brought 4 of 5 meals out 10 minutes before mine. My daughter barely touched her food after the yolk from the over easy egg that topped her Green Chile Enchiladas ran down all over it. By the way, there is nothing Especiale about layered rather than rolled enchiladas, it’s just the lazy way of preparing them. What I look for in a Good Mexican restaurant is reasonable pricing for generous portions of tasty food, but could care less if it looks pretty or not. Apparently Maize assumes that people will pay high prices for tiny portions of bland food as long as it looks pretty. \r
