We share a private drive with four other homes. Together, we acquired quotes from several companies, checked references, and consulted past jobs completed to repair and pave our 13,570 sq ft shared private drive. In the end, this contractor appeared to have the most competitive rate for the quality we desired. The job was scheduled during a rainy season, but completed within a week. This was a huge hassle because our drive is long and we had to park on the main road and trek with kids, groceries, etc. often in rain to get to and from our cars. We and the neighbors paid the contractor part of the contracted price ($9300 of the $28100.00 total) before he began the work and he was ready to collect the balance immediately when the job was done. He also offered to work on any individual driveways since he had the materials on site. This is where our issues began. I believe our biggest mistake was paying for our private job in full in advance ($1920 in addition to the $5620 for the shared drive) . The contractor may have been more anxious to complete the job thoroughly to our satisfaction if he had not been paid the entire amount up front. The specific problems with our driveway include: 1) the point where our driveway meets the private drive is not straight (this is not parallel to the drive, but a haphazard sloppy line the foreman acknowledged and said would be fixed), 2) the seams where they added new asphalt are incomplete (the foreman said one of the workers forgot the
