My daughter has been seeing a dentist since age 3 she is now 24 and she has Down syndrome; she has had hundreds of teeth cleanings, baby teeth extracted with and without Novocain. When I got her new dental insurance the wonderful dentist that she had been seeing for 20 years was not on the list of dentists that I could take her to so I choose Dr. Rasika Jain's. I took her to see Dr. Jain in May because she was having a problem with a very small area on her bottom gum. They did ex-rays and Dr. Jain’s examined her mouth. I asked Dr. Jain at that time why was her gum swollen and she told me that she had adult gum disease and recommended a deep cleaning for my daughter's entire mouth. They did the first deep cleaning in June without Novocain and had absolutely no problems from my daughter. They did the second deep cleaning in July again without Novocain and once again had absolutely no problems with her. Took her back to see Dr. Jain in September, because she still had the same problem with her gun and as a matter of fact it was worst. When Dr. Jain came in to look at the area my daughter didn't cry, yell, try to get out of the chair nothing except Dr. Jain had to ask her twice to open her mouth. When Dr. Jain looked at the area she said, and I quote,” there is nothing I can do for her,"" and recommended a Pediatric Periodontis Specialist. He put her on antibiotics and the problem cleared within two weeks. Call Dr Jain's office the first week in October, and told them that Sarah needed to have one of her baby teeth, on the top right (she still has some of her baby teeth), extracted because it was cracked and loose and was causing her gum to swell and she was in a lot of pain. They told me to come in the following day at 5:00pm. On the day of her appointment they called me late morning and asked me why I was bringing her in. I explained again why I was bringing her in and they told me to and I quote, ""find myself a new dentist because Dr Jain said that she was UNCOOPERATIVE, and needed to see a specialist because she needed to be sedated. "" She was never uncooperative unless you consider having to ask a mentally retarded person twice two open her mouth. In 20 years of her seeing her other dentist with all that she has been through not once has she ever been UNCOOPERATIVE and needed to be sedated to have a tooth extracted. In the 24 years of being her mother talking her to her other dentist of 20 years this is the first time I have ever felt that she was discrimination against. I feel that she was discriminated against because she was not uncooperative at all, if she was so uncooperative then why did they schedule her to come back in November for a regular cleaning? So now my daughter had to suffer one additional day with this pain while I found another dentist that would see her because of Dr Jain's refusal to see her for a simple baby tooth extraction. Also what made the process a lot more difficult in taking her to another dentist is her insurance has to approve taking her to see a specialist. When I called her insurance they told me that her primary dentist Dr. Jaine had to call in for the authorization number. I explained that Dr. Jain told me to find another dentist and that they refused to see her. So after 2 hours of going back and forth with her insurance I finally got the authorization to take her to see the specialist. If you have a child with special needs this is NOT the DENTIST to take them to.
