I run a successful IT business in the Los Angeles area. Recently I had a client who reported to me a complete boot failure of his laptop. On investigation I found the hard disk to be a fault and on removal found that the disk casing was physically twisted due to the method of carrying his laptop. I did not hold much hope but managed to recover a small portion of his data until the disk failed beyond my capabilities to restore.\r

Unfortunately most of the critical data was unrecoverable and since he is an Economics professor and the laptop had not been backed up since submission and marking this year?s exams and papers, we had to investigate alternatives.\r

I submitted the disk to California Data Recovery Services and they managed to recover the vast majority of the data off the disk that was so badly damaged that it took more that 4 weeks to run the complete process.\r

At all stages I had the option to stop the recovery and take what data was available but due to the irreplaceable
