I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all of my life and have a 9 year old daughter. We've recently went on this half-day bus tour from San Francisco heading to Muir Woods and had a blast (it was the first time to Muir Woods for the both of us). Those who are not comfortable driving along windy and narrow roads should definitely take this tour instead of attempting to drive out to Muir Woods on your own. Plus, the minibus was really comfortable and you get to have an informative tour guide telling you about the history and significance of all of the highlights that we passed along the way. Once we got to Muir Woods, we got to spend about an hour in the forest - just about the right amount of time for the 9 year old. Then, the tour bus headed out to our next stop - Sausalito. The tour guide drove through the town, giving us interesting facts about the beautiful little city and let us off right at the heart of the town.
