I went to Dr. Bruggers ( a periodontist)after my general dentist wanted to crown my top 8 front teeth without doing anything about my overbite and crooked bottom teeth. Getting a second opinion from Dr. Bruggers was the best thing I did. She said had I gone along with my dentist I would have needed the crowns replaced in 3-5 years because they would have chipped due to the fact that my bite was misaligned. She referred me to an orthodontist for straightening my teeth and aligning my bite followed by her crowning my top 4 teeth.It was a longer process than it would have been with the general dentist but it was done right and my teeth look great!! It is a shame that patients don't understand the role of periodontists.
