Hi Gertha. I am African-American and although I have permed hair, I do have a suggestion for you. There's a place called Oriental Oasis (I know, the name suggests nothing about African-American hair) on Thomas Circle in downtown DC that caters primarily to African Americans. A stylist named Felicia is the one you want to find. She has natural hair herself and is familiar with its needs and how to style it. And if she feels someone else can do better, she'll refer you. I used to go see Felicia before I bought my first home and went on a strict budget (including doing my own hair), but I highly recommend her. Her prices are reasonable and she's very, very nice too.
