The 24hr Vet clinic in Tacoma (aka Puget Sound Vet Referral Center) is by far the worst place to take your loved animal if it's a caring, compassionate and knowledgeable staff you're hoping for. Had to take my kitty there when he was diagnosed with having something lodged in his esophagus. Next thing I know I am being told that there is nothing in his esophagus but instead has FIP. Huh? Feline Infectious Peritinitis. No vaccine, no cure, I have about a week left with him! Next day, having armed myself with all the info I could find on the internet about FIP, we went to pick up our cat. All be damned if I was ready to lose my TaterBug! They were going to send me home with no treatment. I was to just go home and watch him die and when he got to the point he could no longer get a breath I was to have him euthanized. They wouldn't even look at the studies I brought with me with various treatments that have atleast prolonged these kitties lives a bit, some even quite a bit. Almost 4 wks later (ya 4, not 1 like they said - because I found a very kind, compassionate doctor who happens to like cats quite a bit ;c) Dr. Smith at the Tacoma Cat Hospital also wasn't about to give up & got me 4 more cherished wks!), Tater took a huge turn for he worse and I took him back there to get his little chest tapped. That vet lady came in with a very defensive stance, tapped her finger on the counter, then crossing her arms starts to very abruptly tell me that Tater needed to be put down right then and there. My daughter about fell off her chair. I was about to become a bawling basketcase & wouldn't be able to make the long drive home if she detailed another word, I firmly asked her to ""Stop!"" and explained all that. She didn't hear a word I said. Her voice just rose an octive as she went on how she was an advocate for Tater, blah blah blah. Plus I never got results for (nor reimbursed), a $250 FIP test! Nope, I will never take another one of my 18 cats or 2 huskies there again.
Pros: Open 24 hrs, giving you piece of mind in case of an emergency
Cons: Very curt doctors, verbal info differed from written info they gave me, bad part of town making it a bit scary to get out of your car at night.
