While Boone County, Arkansas does not enjoy a good reputation in the Arkansas medical community, nor among the faculty at UAMS, Dr. Sharron Leslie represents a refreshing exception to that unfortunate norm. It seems that most physicians in the Harrison area quit reading their journals and attending professional conferences shortly after completing their residencies. Subsequently, few are current and up-to-date medically. In Harrison, doctors are regarded as dieties, which they most certainly are not. In fact, thier diagnoses, conclusions, plans of treatment should be questioned rigorously by a patient population that has been trained to not speak to, let alone question, a physician professionally. Of course, the people who win are the physicians. The people who lose are their patients.\r

Dr. Thomas Leslie, by contrast, reported that he held a Bachelor's degree with a ""minor"" in speech pathology. Unfortunately, there is not accredited college or university in the U.S. that will confer a ""minor"" in speech pathology when the minimum degree requirement for employment is a Master's degree. If he can be less than honest about something like that, I would not be inclined to trust other aspects of his professional behavior.\r

Between the two, our experience favors Dr. Sharron Leslie.\r

Take care of yourself and your family. Ask doctors questions. Do not be intimidated by them. They are no different than you. They just went to school longer, and are members of a profession that is trying to advance itself harder in the United States than in any other part of the world. Remember that about 100 years ago, doctors were considered to be little more than medicine show hucksters or circus clowns.
