One should use extreme caution if bringing in a vacuum to be fixed with this business. I brought in my Kenmore canister vacuum and initially received a free quote from the manager of ~$75 to clean the motor in order to get it working properly again. I confirmed with the manager that he believed this would essentially fix my vacuum so I agreed to pay the estimate. Within a day or so I receive a call from another employee who stated that there was another issue (which she could not state in words) and the quote would go up to ~$180 to fix it. Not being sure the vacuum is even worth that much since it is so old, I decided to just pick it up. I was met by the manager who stated that the other problem lie with an issue in the handle of the vacuum. He said that he wouldn't charge me despite the fact that he cleaned the motor. My options were to leave the vacuum and finish the job and then pay the full quote OR...use the offered $100 credit toward a new vacuum in their store. I decided to wait and take it home. After about a week, I figured, well since they already cleaned the motor, I might as well take it someplace else and see if they can fix the problem with the handle. Upon bringing it to a new repair shop, they tested it while I was standing there within two minutes and ruled out any problem with the handle. Within a couple days I had my vacuum back. The only problem they found with the vacuum....THE MOTOR NEEDED CLEANING! Final charge to fix my vacuum...$28. They said it was clearly obvious nobody cleaned the motor. Not only did Oreck have me believing that there was an additional problem (there wasn't), they told me they cleaned the motor! AND, they were going to charge upwards of $200 to fix everything! They also had me believing that I could trade in my vacuum for a $100 dollar credit to buy a vacuum in their store! I lose my vacuum and have to buy a new one! So essentially they would get my vacuum that only needed very minimal repair and have me purchasing one of their vacuums! Unbelievable! When I called the store and called out the manager he was speechless and went on some spiel about having different prices than other competitors. This experience just makes me crazy and upset about the kinds of people we unknowingly do business with.
