Businiess name:  Geek Squad

Review content:
I bought a Samsung HD Smart TV, Pioneer VSX-523 receiver, along with the home theater installation. Geek Squad personnel came to my house to put the TV on the wall and hook up my receiver, CD player, and X-Box. They stacked the receiver, X-Box, cable box, and CD player on top of each other on a small table that was about 18 inches from the floor. I told them I was building another table for the equipment and the two Geek Squad personnel said it would be a good idea to spread everything out on the shelves for ventilation. They also said it would be okay to leave the cords in the back of the receiver while I placed the receiver directly on the floor then lift it up to the shelves. The receiver, X-Box, cable box, and CD player were never placed more than 18 inches from where they initially were placed by the Geek Squad personnel. After the Geek Squad personnel left, I moved the equipment to the shelves. Everything was working fine, however, about an hour later, there was no sound from my TV. I called Geek Squad back to my house where they could not figure out why there was no sound. They accused me of ruining the cable/satellite port on the receiver. They immediately turned and started walking out of my house, no further word. Stunned, I asked them if I should return the receiver, and without looking back, they mumbled, "whatever you want to do." I returned the receiver for another identical one. After hooking it up myself, the sound came in the first couple times of turning on the TV, but then stopped. I emailed my problem to the Pioneer Customer Service in California and they gave me these instructions: 1. Press the receiver button. 2. Press Signal Sel repeatedly on the remote to select "H" for HDMI. The sound now works. Obviously, the receiver needs the correct settings! If Geek Squad reads my review, I hope they take notes carefully to avoid another bad customer review. They should have the knowledge to accurately set up all receivers -- if not, Do Your Homework!
