We booked a room at the Railway Inn after reading about it online. The website makes it sound like a quaint little family hotel, but we did not have a good experience here at all. The room was quite cheap, but this was definitely a case of ""you get what you pay for."" The outside of the hotel is cute, but the rooms are not nice. We were told that we could check in at 3, but the room was not ready when we arrived. We left for a late lunch, and when we came back the room still was not ready even though the front desk manager told us it would be cleaned right away. We were told that the one person who cleans all of the rooms starts on the first floor and works her way up to the top, with no exceptions. We left instead of waiting around, because we had plans for the afternoon. When we arrived back at the hotel late that evening, we found out that after 10 p.m. there is no one on duty at the front desk over night. The front door is locked, and there is a code for the back door, but we arrived to find that someone had propped open the back door. Anyone could come in and no one on staff would know. Our room had still not been properly cleaned, but there was no one we could call. We did not have enough towels, the bathroom was dirty, and the tub would not hold water. The towels were quite rough, and there was a sign posted on the bathroom mirror stating that customers would be charged for stained towels. (A rough green washcloth was provided for removing makeup.) There was only one lock on the room door, and no emergency information or numbers were posted in the room. The breakfast was orange juice and cereal with milk, which we almost missed because there was no clock in the room. The ONLY redeeming thing about the hotel was the train ride around the property, which my children enjoyed. We would not stay here again, and would not recommend this hotel to anyone else. There are other inexpensive options that would be safer and nicer. Pros: Train Ride Cons: Service, Safety, Room Quality
