Review content:
I am a greater NYC transplant and 60% Italian to boot. I have been living in the south for about 4 years now and have done nothing but complain every time I've eaten Italian. Well... since finding Joey's I have no reason to complain anymore. Their food is wonderful. Their pizza crust doesn't flop when you pick it up and their canolis are made the right way... with ricotta instead of whipped cream or whatever the rest of the italian restaurants in the south put in them. When you order a side salad, it comes with oil and balsamic dressing topped with salt and pepper just the way my italian grandmother used to make it. My favorite dish at Joey's is the eggplant parmesan. It is divine! It's made correctly and the eggplant just melts in your mouth. There are a lot of places up north that can't make eggplant parm as well as Joey's! It really is excellent. It reminds me of the way my great aunt makes it. Absolutely delicious. \r \r Then there is the atmosphere. There is a dark haired, Italian man (Joey) in a white t-shirt and jeans standing behind the counter tossing pizza dough... and he knows what he's doing. Plus, the family that operates the restaurant really is from NYC and they have the accents to boot. My husband and I just love it. It absolutely feels like home! Thanks to Joey's for opening in Brentwood and saving all of us northern transplants from having to eat lousy Italian food!\r \r Pros: Authentic NYC staff and awesome pizza and Italian dishes Cons: none that I can think of.
