Review content:
I decided to go here finally after reading so much about it. We went on a Tuesday afternoon before a Spurs game, so the place was pretty much empty. The staff was extremely friendly, even the busboys and the cleaning lady. They were all willing to help me figure out where I needed to go to order, where to pick up my food, where the restrooms were. I ordered a tostada burger, my wife ordered the Jalape?o burger; and we both ordered some regular fries (which was quite a large portion, big enough for the two of us and our young daughter). I admit I was skeptical of eating a tostada burger, but it was actually really good. I tried putting some ketchup on it, and then some of the fresh salsa. I recommend using the fresh salsa. It sounds odd, but trust me, it?s better than ketchup (think about eating ketchup with beans, blah). The burger was bigger than the bun, it was drenched in cheese. I?m a healthy eater, but it was my monthly date to splurge. They toasted the buns quite nicely, which prevents them from getting soggy. The fries were so-so, not to die for. The taste of the meat was good, but yes quite greasy. I did leave full, definitely. I believe that Burger Tex in Austin (off of Airport Blvd) has the absolute best hamburger in all of TEXAS, and I was hoping for something similar here at Chris Madrid?s (since I now live in San Antonio). Burger Tex is still better by far, but Chris Madrid?s will hold me over until then. I liked how totally unassuming the exterior of this restaurant is. It looks like some run-down old business with an over-sized parking lot. But once you walk through the doors, you?re surprised by how large it is, and the atmosphere is very welcoming and just flat out Texan. You need to drop by here at least once, maybe after spending a day at the Zoo, and walking around Brackenridge Park (just a few miles east). I?ve heard it?s busy, so maybe try to go when I did (during the week, after lunch rush, before dinner rush). Pros: Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, toasted buns, fills you up Cons: Not good for your heart! Hamburgers are basically the only menu item
