I don't have much, and what I do have is on it's last Ikea leg, but my new job in SF offered to pay for my move, so I decided to take it all. \r
When the movers arrived, 15 minutes early, which was fine with me, I did not anticipate being as nervous as I was. Typical of a moving company, everything was an extra charge from their over-use of tape that wrapped around the blankented furniture to the second box apparently needed for the glass top to my kitchen table. \r
Keep in mind, I wasn't paying for the move, but being taken advantage of is a real pet peeve of mine, and this was the kind of moving company that charges by weight, and who the hell has any idea of how much there sh*t ways?\r
It turns out I have a ton of sh*t, literally, and the move from LA to SF cost $850. Add to that the cost of materials and flights of stairs, and it was a total of $1200. \r
Everything arrived on time and in excellent condition. The foreman in both cities was friendly and professional. They put my pieces of Ikea back together without the typical screaming and cursing I usually engage in when I have that task, and they stuck around a minute to rearrange the furniture to my liking. \r
I was expecting $1000 for the move, and even if my company didn't pay for it, I probably would have shelled out the dough. I could have saved my company a few hundred dollars by taking the time to make sure everything possible was in a box. Also, the free insurance they provide won't even pay for the tape you bought to seal your boxes. If you have furniture that is worh something, get it additionally insured for piece of mind. \r
Moving is still a pain in the neck, but way less when you don't have to carry a couch up a narrow flight of stairs.
Pros: Professional, friendly, fast working
Cons: The guessing game with the weight is scary
