I recently scheduled my five year old for open mri of his head, very scary as parents.. I discussed with the receptionist my concern that my child may be unable to stay still and may need sedation. She assured me we could try without and if unable to stay still that we could sedate him. She said they could give him a shot. His appointment came and he could not remain still. He was scared. I asked for the sedation and the staff replied they do not do it there. I explained that when I made the appointment the receptionist stated it could be done if he could not stay still. Insead of apologizing that I was given the wrong information, the nurse, tech and receptionist became argumentative. They said no one ever would tell me that. Then they said I called and asked about contrast. I explained I only wanted them to let their receptionists know that was wrong information so another family did not go through this. My son is now going for a second mri increasing his anxiety as well as potential delay in care for him and more worrying for us. They continued to state I was lying. As I pointed out, contrast has nothig to do with a childs ability to stay still, I discussed sedation with the woman on the phone. More concerning than their rude and unprofessional behavior was their lack of concern that future patients will be misinformed by a staff member because they refused to believe anyone their could make a mistake, but also their lack of shmpathy for a scared five year old or the anxiety produced by your child needing a mri of their head and all that implies.
