Rip Off Alert: The owner of this company, Bob Steinmetz, is a salesman, not a contractor. He cannot and will not resolve problems that occur as a result of the poor craftsmanship of his contractors. We hired AOC to build a shower. After it was done and I signed the invoice, we discovered it leaked, it was constructed of inferior products, the shower valve was installed upside down, our new shower pan is scratched and gouged, the shower door is installed crooked, we have no hot water, very little water pressure, and many other issues. We referred to their contract guarantee, however they were not skilled enough to make the necessary repairs and corrections after more than 3 months so we released them of their contract obligation and attempted to negotiate a partial refund as stated in their guarantee. But they refused. Their efforts to "fix the problem" included trying to cover up the leak, offering to stand in the shower with an umbrella, and spending hours staring at the shower scratching their heads. We used three of their contractors, Craig (the original contractor who regularly spoke of personal problems), Dan (the cover-up guru), and Steve, who admitted to having to consistently do repairs after the shoddy work of his co-workers. The owner, Bob Steinmetz, refuses to pay the $5,000 deductible to use his commercial liability insurance and admitted to not wanting to "sink any money into [the repair]." We attempted to use the BBB to resolve the problem and even during this process, Bob Steinmetz dragged it out by waiting until the response deadline dates before submitting every rebuttal. So, after seven months, we are out $5,000 with no chance to recover it in court because of the contract's binding arbitration clause, which we would likely lose because of contractor/arbitrator camaradarie. And, after inspections by three NARI recommended contractors, we are told we need to tear out the shower and start all over. This experience has been a nightmare and I would never recommend Andy on Call to anyone, for any reason. Do yourself a favor and don't even consider this company. There is a reason they will give you "a very competative" bid on your job. Good Luck! RESPONSE FROM ANDY ONCALL: Dear Penny, We are truly sorry you are unsatisfied. We take customer satisfaction very seriously, as is evidenced by over 2,300 jobs that we have completed for return and referred customers in the past 4 years. We currently perform over 52% of our jobs for return and referred customers. Unfortunately, your project presented us with a problem that was very difficult to solve. It was a small leak that only appeared sporadically. I personally reviewed the work that was performed on your house, and spent hundreds of dollars on trouble-shooting. Just when we found the source of the leak, you elected to terminate our relationship and asked us to essentially pay to have the entire project torn out and re-installed by another contractor. I understand that you were frustrated with length of time it took to find the problem, as were we. I had agreed to perform additional tile work at no charge for you in recognition of the longer than usual time it took us to find the source of the leak. I am still willing to repair the leak for you, and will do so courteously and professionally.
