Review content:
It was inevitable that this historic landmark for jazz music go the way of whatever is trendy in order to turn a profit. Fortunately, they do still provide jazz sessions on the occasional weeknight and Sunday brunch. Though they don?t like to advertise those dates, you can hear some of the giants of the West Coast Cool School of jazz.\r
\r
Unfortunately, they really don?t like us moldy figs to come to hear the jazz on those occasions. The waitstaff have adopted an ?the customer is the enemy? approach to service. I agree that the turnout is low-to-moderate, but most of us enjoy dinner (above average bar food) and drinks, and I know that I would tip well if I were not ?handled? as if I was a terrific bother. Perhaps if we were regarded as valuable patrons many of us would attend more frequently causing more filled rooms for the jazz. On my last visit, our server, Nicole, presented us with a check that was simply a scrap of paper with what she arbitrarily decided to charge us. Needless to say, we demanded an itemized bill?boy was she put out.\r
\r
Another unfortunate for the venerable old Lighthouse?if you attend during daylight hours, look up into the rafters and see gobs of cobwebs laden with primordial dust bunnies dangling above your table?they sway nicely when the ceiling fans are turned on. I was also troubled by the lack of supplies in the ladies room, soap, TP, etc. Kind of makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen that prepares our brunches and dinners.
Pros: Steps from the pier and the beach
Cons: Parking is a buck an hour
