Review content:
We were walking downtown Charlotte May 23 while waiting for our kid who was taking a class, and trying to find somewhere to eat. Saw Rock Bottom and the outdoor patio with open seats in the sun and decided that it looked nice, so we walked up. Upon entering, saw that the dining room and the bar. looked immaculate. We asked if we could sit in the sun--the host said sure, then sat us in the shade. Thus begins our rough meal.
After waiting 5-7 minutes for the server to greet us, he shows up, looking stressed. I assume he's overwhelmed, there's only 3 servers running all the tables on the patio area and theres a LOT of tables out there. My companion orders a sweet tea, and I order one of their beers, the stout, and we order the Jalapeno Spinach dip & chips. The dip had coagulated on the top a bit but was still a little warm, and some of the chips were not very crisp. We enjoyed it and just avoided the stale chips...flavor of the dip was pretty good.
For our entrees, I had the Hawaiian Chicken with an added side salad, and she had the Gorgonzola Pear Salad. Mine was fine, good for the price and tasted as it should, but my side salad never came. The green beans as a side were excellent. Her salad however, came out with a good bit of wilted lettuce. Normally we'll pick out a few pieces and not sweat it, but there was a good amount. We alerted our server who took the salad, (we kept the chicken and just asked for new greens...she placed her chicken on my plate). When the manager brought us a new plate of greens tossed in balsamic, she of course checked it for wilting. When she did, there were tiny pieces of breading and chicken in that plate of greens (her chicken was still on my plate). The manager came out and apologized, never gave his name, and offered dessert. The server apologized a few times as well.
I hope that this was a bad day for them and not indicative of their normal operation. I had high hopes as I perused the menu, all the items described sounded delicious, but it doesn't look like management pays attention to what comes out of the kitchen. After this experience though, and spending $40 on a below average meal(we tipped 8 on the 32 left from the beer, tea, app, and my food) and the nonchalant handling of the issue from the manager, I don't think I'll be visiting this restaurant again.
Pros: Great location, extensive menu.
Cons: Service slow, read to see...
