So, here is my story about Woodland Park Apartments.\r
\r
on Feb 4th my girlfriend filled out an application online and shortly afterward was called by a representative to collect the $35 application fee. They called her later that evening telling her she had been approved with a $1200 deposit and needed $300 to hold the apartment and that it would be applied to the deposit. So she set an appointment to view the units the next day (75 mile drive). \r
\r
I went with her (knowing the reputation of this place). When we arrived they had no clue who she was even though she had an ""appointment"". The leasing agent then drove us around until she found a unit she liked. Turned out the one apartment they were advertising for $1100 was now ""not available"" so she was up-sold to a unit that was $1300 instead. (the classic bait and switch). Edgar, who was showing us the units was discussing move-in costs, we agreed the move in should be around $1200(deposit) and around $600 for the pro-rated portion of the rent.\r
\r
Once we got back to the leasing office they told her that she needed to be approved? What the hell? They told her she was already approved! Worse yet, they had not even processed her application!!!! They blatantly lied to her to get her into the leasing office! Conveniently it was Edgar's lunch break and he quietly snuck out the back door leaving us to deal with his ""manager"". \r
\r
Once the hassle of being re-approved was over the leasing manager then told her that her deposit was not actually $1200 but in fact $2400!!!! Plus first months rent!! Really this does not seem legal!! So they doubled the deposit and gave her no reason for it, basically said take it or leave it......Truly sad, I was having flashbacks of being screwed at a used car lot. I tried to talk her into leaving but she could not, she was stuck and the property manager could small blood in the water...\r
\r
Anyhow, she really had no choice but to agree to it because she is starting a new job on the 17th and needs to move into the area to be close to work. So she paid the $300 holding fee to reserve her unit. I made sure to have them put everything in writing, move in date, address of the unit, and total move-in costs, etc..They told her she had 24 hours to cancel......\r
\r
So now here we are, Feb 11th. The 24 hours has long passed. This morning she gets an email from the Leasing agent saying that she is still not yet approved for the unit. The excuse is that they have not been able to contact her current landlord for a rental reference. The leasing agent says in the email she made ""several attempts to contact the current landlord but was not successful"" and she would try again today. (she is suppose to be moving in on Friday remember). \r
\r
She calls her current landlord and it turns out that Woodland Park has NEVER called them! Not once! (SURPRISE! ANOTHER BLATANT LIE!!!). That they always return rental verification calls in 24 hours! Also, That the leasing agent who supposedly made these ""calls"" was not even in the office today to ""try again""!!!!\r
\r
At this point I think we are out the $300 and we are not going to get the unit we were promised. \r
\r
The ""manager"" promised to get us some answers today but I doubt this very much. I'm actually thinking of suing them for false advertising, breach of contract and damages for my girlfriends potential lost wages. \r
\r
If you are thinking about renting from these people, please believe the reviews that came before mine, god I wish I had, what a NIGHTMARE!!!!\r
\r
SAVE YOURSELF, DO NOT RENT FROM WOODLAND PARK APARTMENTS!!!!!
