My husband and I bought our first kayaks (sit-on-tops) from Bruce and Charles at Canoesport in Dec. 1993. We possessed a desire to be on the water but possessed little knowledge about the activity back then. Thanks to Bruce and Charles we got the right boats and gear for the style of paddling we wanted to do. As we became better paddlers and more knowledgeable about canoeing and kayaking, we purchased our next boat from them - a kevlar Minn II by Wenonah. Their recommendation was spot on. Our stable of boats now numbers 8 - all Canoesport boats. We even found the perfect sized boats (kayaks) for our 8 and 5 year old boys. You cannot get this kind of service and selection at REI, Gander Mountain, Academy, or any online store. You may be able to get cheaper equipment at those places but remember why you are interested in water sports - for pleasure. Your fun quotient drops precipitiously with a heavy paddle, or a bulky, awkward to maneuver boat, or that hot, sweaty PFD that you bought because that is all they had to offer at the chain stores. The knowledge about water sports and how best to outfit your needs, that Bruce and Charles have, is what gets you on the water and keeps you paddling and having fun for many years to come. We live in The Woodlands now. We research our water sports needs thoroughly but we still make the drive to Canoesport for the quality service and selection they provide. Pros: knowledgeable owners who are always there, huge selection of boats, quality gear Cons: Only one location (but worth the drive)
