Review content:
I came to Shai Amiel and his Capella Salon in a professional capacity in August of 2007. I was assigned that year the review of a shortlist of hair stylists who were supposed to be excellent with all types of curly hair, from wavy to kinky. In my research, I discovered the Deva Cut (which is done dry and in the hair's natural state), and Shai was supposedly the best in Los Angeles to do it.
Not expecting much, I got everything I wanted. Since then, I've stayed with this salon and experimented with highlighting specifically for curly/wavy hair where in specific strands are colored to highlight the movement of curl. Amazing. The haircuts using this technique are so good, I often walk out without needing styling (though when I do, it too is great--they also SHOW you how to style curly hair, which many do not). And though I am a curly girl, Shai and his staff can do any hair type, and Shai is a master at color, taking a friend of mine from blonde to China-Doll black--and you'd never know.
The salon itself is lovely. Right off Ventura Blvd. with parking in back, you walk into wooden floors and a lot of light and space. They have products not easily found in LA in their retail area (Deva, Moroccan Oil, Davines, etc.). I also believe they have WiFi.
Though it is my job to test various beauty services in LA, I have forgone making money in testing haircuts because I do not want anyone messing up what Shai has done. You must experience this salon, and the Deva Cut by Shai if you're a curly girl, at least once.
