Review content:
Had a pretty disturbing visit to Demet's this morning. There are some ""usuals"" of the restaurant who sit in the booths day in and day out -- a group of 5 or 6 people in their 70s. My husband & our three-year old son sat in an open booth next to the usuals (I am a man). As soon as we sat down, the verbal assault began. One of the gentlemen, who was probably five feet away from my son in the next booth, raised his voice so everyone in the restaurant could hear him. His ended his speech, while looking directly at our family, saying (direct quote) ""Mayor Menino says we should accept everyone. I don't agree with that. I hate lesbians. I hate f__g_ts. And Mr. Menino can shove it."" It's one thing to express your viewpoints on an issue. It is another to do so with this kind of language and direct it at a 3-year old. The restaurant is usually very nice to us, but there was no response to this. Not a safe place for same-sex couples, or for that matter, anyone with children.
