I live behind the studios and have been trying to get them to comply with the NYC sound laws for nearly 2 years. All they need to do is replace an old A/C unit which lets sound out through the wall. But the owner will not do this, despite being fined by the DEP, despite many many 311 calls, despite countless visits by the local precinct, despite being written to by the local council person and despite pleas in person and on the phone.
We can't hear TV programs properly, even with the double-glazing windows closed. The music continues until gone midnight quite often and many of us have to be up really early. My wife and baby have to put up with the intrusive noise during weekdays. We can't enjoy having the windows open when it's warm, nor sitting outside. This studio really affects a lot of people's lives negatively and the owner is content to continue to do so. Just bear that in mind before you hand over your cash to this business.
