Review content:
I started training at this dojo about a year ago, and am having an awesome time. The training is hands-on with a focus on how we can apply what we are learning for self-defense in real-life scenarios. The quality of instruction is incredible with clear explanations and demonstrations of the principles and techniques. Clark Sensei blends 15+ years of Aikido training with his high school Tae Kwon Do training, collegiate big ten fencing, and 6+ years of Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Kung Fu. To say he is a master swordsman would probably be an understatement, both in terms of knowledge about Japanese swords/swordsmanship as well as his skills with them. Gene is the other regular black belt instructor, and his credentials run so deep I probably don't even know them all: multiple combat tour US Army veteran with 17 years in special ops as a Ranger, 20+ years of Aikido training, certified self-defense/personal protection/combatives instructor, and multiple years of Krav Maga, Kyusho Jitsu and Haganah training. Not every great martial artist is a great instructor, but this is definitely NOT the case at Five Rings Aikido. Both Clark Sensei and Gene are master teachers, and it shows. I highly recommend Five Rings Aikido!
