Review content:
We moved our mother into Mallard Landing with the understanding that she would be able to live there all the way to the end (even ""if on hospice""). This was very appealing because we wanted her to be in a nice place, well cared for, without having to move again and again (as we were told at other places she would need move to once her condition changed from this to that, etc.). It was disappointing and frustrating to find that ML did not live up to what they ""sold"" us. Our mother has early stages of dementia, and after only 18 months of living at ML, it was clear that she would have to leave ML because they were not able to accommodate her needs. It was very unfortunate because we hoped, and were led to believe, that we would not have to put her through the hardship and trauma of leaving friends and moving to a(nother) strange place.\r \r Positives of ML:\r The staff was very kind and compassionate to our mom.\r The food was good.\r The facility was clean.\r \r Negatives:\r Administration was terrible at communication and very unprofessional. Example: if we asked a question, we generally did not get a response. After several days or weeks when we would follow up, we would get very snide answers and negative comments about our mother (generally regarding issues related to her dementia). This was surprising to us, because we understood these to be common issues of dementia and frankly, that's what we were paying all the money to ML to do - care for her needs.\r \r Another time, we found that our mom was being given the wrong medications. It took 3 days (with several attempts to get a response) before we received a call back with an answer. ML had been looking into this problem after our first call, however we were never made aware of that until the 3rd day. Needless to say, we were very concerned but no one gave us an answer until 3 days later.\r \r Conclusion:\r If you are looking for a nice ""senior apartment"" that provides meals and medications to you loved one, this may be the place for them. If your loved one needs ""care"", you may be better off looking elsewhere.
