Review content:
Have shopped at Echter's off and on for several yrs for my summer flowers. Usually spend a couple hundred a summer as it's my main splurge and I love gardening.
Purchased a Groupon Echter's coupon a few mos. ago for $15 for $30 worth of flowers. Went to O'Toole's Garden Center a few days ago w/a friend to help her plan her garden design, and was amazed at the great deals on perennials and annuals they had. Purchased several flats of flowers and after they were planted, realized I needed a few more to fill the remaining pots.
Went to Ecther's today to use my coupon and didn't realize that they closed at 8:00. Was there at 7:45. Decided to make it quick as I didn't want to hold anyone up in closing the store. Got my business done in 7 minutes flat, and headed to the check-out stand where two older ladies (Rose & Dot) were giving me stern looks.
They reminded me, as if I didn't know from the numerous store announcements blaring over the loudspeaker that 'Echter's is closing in 10 minutes'...
I said I made this a quick purchase and didn't realize that they closed at 8:00. Was at Lowe's prior to this stop where they close at 9:00, and realized I should head over to Ecther's to use my coupon as I was in the neighborhood.
As they were looking for my Groupon coupon # in their book where they kept all purchased Groupon coupons w/people's names next to the coupon number, I offered to help look and mentioned that perhaps some of the numbers may not be in order, as the other older lady mentioned. 'Rose' barked in a rude tone, 'we don't need your help and if we don't find your number, you can't purchase your flowers.' I said that I had purchased this coupon a few mos. ago and that I didn't want to have to make another trip to the store.
After having just about enough attitude flung in my face by her and 'Dot', the manager, I stated that I didn't appreciate her rude manner and that they could deal w/the coupon # another time. Finally, Dot says that that's what they'd do, and at that moment, 'Rose' gave me a nasty look. I said I didn't appreciate the nasty look and that I'd reconsider shopping at their store again spending my $ elsewhere.
As I was leaving, and by the way, the young lady waiting on me was very nice, 'Rose' shot me another dirty look. I said in this day and age in this economy, rude service doesn't cut it, and being snotty to your customers will guarantee that they won't come back.
She didn't seem to care and I figured, oh well, I'll go where my business is appreciated such as Paulinos, Timberline Gardens, or O'Tooles.
Pros: Selection of flowers
Cons: High prices/rude service
