Beware of being pushed into unneeded repairs!Take your woodwinds to Marsh in Raleigh!\r
We've lived in Cary near Burt for almost 20 years, and for 10 years have taken our daughter's clarinet there for minor repairs, purchased reeds, etc. Always been satisfied before. \r
This time she needed one joint recorked and 2 bent keys straighted on the old beginner plastic clarinet she uses in NCSU marching band. This is her senior year, so it only has to make it through one last football season. She has a very nice, expensive, high quality wood clarinet she uses for indoor performing. \r
Daughter was out of the US on a research internship and left the clarinet for me to take in for those specified repairs only. Then her dad was home when a call came from Burt's repairman, saying it needed a FULL PAD replacement. Not knowing what to do, he agreed. This work was NOT NEEDED! 2 of the pads were replaced just last year, there is no way those 2 needed to be done again. She was aware of the pad condition. This instrument only had to get through this one season of marching, it would have made it fine. \r
Because my husband was convinced this repair was necessary, he approved the work, and it cost us $150 to get a $250 clarinet back!!!! \r
We will NEVER return to Burt! We'll take the time to drive over to Marsh Woodwinds in Raleigh where they don't try to upsell you on repairs.
Pros: Local
Cons: Paid $$$$ for more than required!
