In a nutshell, customer service was poor and craftsmanship (if you want to call it that) of our cabinet was even worse. For $1,000 we should not have had to glue, sand or finish a brand new cabinet. We could have gotten better quality, price and maybe even customer service at Lowes or Home Depot. Very sad. Everyone talks craftsmanship and customer service but it seems to be a thing of the past. After looking at many cabinets and getting estimates on a vanity we decided upon Hagerstown Kitchens because we were assured a high quality, custom product. After deciding upon a design and getting a price we signed the paper, made a down payment and waited about 6 weeks. We ordered an 8 drawer vanity & top but when it arrived the cabinet only had 6 drawers. (It seemed the employee there at the time was ready to dispute this with us. Good thing we had our signed copy of the contract!) I understand that mistakes sometimes happen, but when they do, someone should be in contact with the customer about what’s going on. From that point on, WE had to initiate every call with our salesperson to try and get answers. It took several calls to find out when we could expect the completion of the new vanity. This lack of customer service is inexcusable.
When our vanity was finally completed, we got to look at it in a very dimly lit garage. We were also shorted two knobs which we were promised in a week, but took two to get. We were charged full price which we paid without complaint.
After getting the vanity home and in real lighting, we saw that the exposed finished end of the cabinet has 2 cuts in it, the curve in the right door panel on the front is splintered, and there is dark excess stain inside the cabinet on the lighter wood. All of the holes drilled for the knobs are splintered inside the drawers and doors, some revealing unstained wood. I know for a fact this could have been prevented. The insides of the drawers are very rough and unfinished. Now, I am in the process of spending more time and money doing it myself! Also, the entire top of the cabinet is bowed.
Overall, not only a sloppy job but no craftsmanship, high quality, or professionalism at all!!!
In our dealings with Hagerstown Kitchens from the beginning we noticed many miscommunications between staff members. As I look back now that should have been a red flag and we should have run away!
For the quality we received we could have paid 60% less by going to Lowe’s or Home Depot. It is a shame that a mass produced cabinet can rival the quality of handmade craftsmanship!
