Review content:
The much praised ambiance of spago is overrated. I found the building to be barnlike, small, and the main dining room dark and average at best. I had the liver and onion with bacon, I liked the crisp onions and the liver was good but I have had better. The dessert was creatively served and assembled french style, but nothing special. The wine list is extensive and expensive. The waitstaff was attentive. There is $125 caviar, but overall it wasn't very expensive and not much different compared to other restaurants. I went to Spago recently and had the sea bass it was $35 for a 3 inch piece of fish flanked by tiny pieces of shrimp and clams. The $16 dessert was also a 3 inch piece of chocolate cake. I guess they are trying to save money. Pros: good food, good service, great breads tryemall Cons: small portions, see through kitchen, expensive dessert
