My kid had parked in a tow away zone, near the UWM campus. It was on a Saturday night, and he received a ticket from the Milwaukee PD. He deserved that. Apparently, this company is a sub-contractor for the city...and they towed the vehicle. \r
They are closed on Sunday and I called on Monday to see how much it would be to retreive the vehicle. I was told it was $195 for the tow, $60 for two days of storage and $25 dollars for the ""gate fee"", and tax...for a total of $295...which is outrageous.\r
The vehicle was towed about 5 miles and it was $195. They are closed on Sunday and they charged 2 days storage fee and a gate fee. \r
I asked if everything was in order for him to pick up the vehicle. He said it was ""good to go"". OK.\r
He went to get the vehicle, paid the $295...and THEN they told him he needed to PRODUCE THE REGISTRATION to pick up the car. Obviously, the registration is in the car, at this point. Ninety-nine per-cent of drivers of registered vehicles keep the vehicle registration in the glove box or console...and they know that. Since the vehicle had yet to be released to him, he was not allowed to access to the vehicle to get the registration. (Let's back up to where I ASKED THE MANAGER IF EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER FOR HIM TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE.) They told him he'd have to go to the DMV and get a copy made. That would have taken so long that he would be charged for another day of storage.\r
Fortunately, an employee there had a heart and got the registration out for him. It wasn't the manager, that's for sure.\r
So, they prey on students, their charges are highly inflated and they try to stall the process to reap additional charges, and they lie about the required documentation needed to retrieve your vehicle. \r
If you want to have a vehicle towed or your car unlocked or jump-started (which there are 100's of other companies in Milwaukee to do that ) they may be ok. If your vehicle gets towed by them...bend over ! \r
I am shocked the City of Milwaukee uses them as a sub-contracted business. To me they are nothing more than ambulance chasers
