This very old charming trading post/house turned restaurant is a secret of the locals. \r
In a pretty and rural farm area in upstate NY you will find the Country Dream. The outside porch is now enclosed & part of the restaurant to make more room for customers, but the original axe cut beams with square nails are still there as well as old photos and memoribila of what it originally looked like in its glory days. \r
Old tin tables seat small or medium parties. On the night we tried it, the meal was ""family style"" and we were provided large dishes of fresh ham, roast beef, gravies for both, green beans, mashed potatoes, & mashed squash. If we finished it they would bring out more, it was still the same cost. Everything was cooked well and tasty. The wait staff was nice. \r
We went on another day for breakfast. They have early hours which is nice. They were short staffed & we went late so I did not get to try the homemade apple fritters I was hoping for. Breakfast was a little more simple and not too hot because of the delay with the 2 waitresses trying to wait on everyone. \r
I originally thought this place- off the main road in a quiet area must not be frequented much, but I was mistaken. It was packed when we went, & each time Ive passed it. The food is very nice and the prices reasonable. Much of what is not made there is made local and very fresh. If you ever heard the expression to go where the locals go- then it really applies here. Not fancy, just good food in a pretty calming area at a good price. JTB \r
Pros: Great old fashioned charm, simple good food
Cons: They need more help to keep up the service
