Review content:
I have not tried the Italian dishes at San Carlo. I'm strictly speaking sandwiches here.,\r
\r
San Carlo offers some of the best sandwiches in the valley. Both their hot and cold varieties are far above and beyond anything you will get at any of the major sandwich chains. They also beat out most Italian restaurants. I recommend the San Carlo Special if you like cold cuts, and the meatball with provolone or mozzarella if your into something hot.\r
\r
What makes a sandwich is the bread. Fresh baked, homemade bread is the only way to go. San Carlo does this right and offers a crispy or soft roll.\r
\r
Another place across town in Granada Hills also offers a crispy or soft roll for their sandwiches, and is the only place that beats San Carlo. The Italia Bakery and Deli is the king. Their hard, crispy roll is the best bread I have ever tasted. San Carlo attempts Italia's recipe but doesn't quite get it right. \r
\r
Like San Carlo, I recommend the meatball with cheese and the Italian cold cut - only on a crispy hard roll.\r
\r
It's strange how much these two deli's are alike. They have identical menus, their bread is similar. Mr. San Carlo claims to be related to the Italia family but I believe he is pulling my leg.
Pros: Great food. Friendly people. Hard to beat their sandwiches!
