Review content:
I went in to get some prescription cat food today and in talking with Dr. Eric Smith at the Park Animal Clinic found out he is retiring!! I felt the tears welling in my eyes as he told me about it. I have known Dr. Smith for over thirty years and was so glad that something (or someone) urged me to go by his Clinic today. He is truly the most gentle, loving, compassionate vet I have ever known. He has taken care of 6 or 7 of my past pets and currently treats my golden retriever and two cats. He is so very gentle when examining them and makes them feel like they are the most adorable pet he has ever seen. He has treated my dogs, cats and even a lop rabbit! There were several times over the years when that heartbreaking decision had to be made; when their quality of life was so diminished, it was doing the loving thing to let them drift into that final sleep. Dr. Smith was always very compassionate, understanding my grief and pain and allowing me to stay with my beloved pet until they took their last breath. I had a golden retriever who, at age 15, was seeing her final good days and drifting into a place that caused both her and I a lot of anguish and we decided it was time to let her go. She could hardly walk and I had to carry her part of the way and put her in the car. But when we got to Dr. Smith's Clinic, she knew where she was and when I opened the door, she jumped out and hurried as fast as she was able to the door, knowing she had come to see her friend and he would fix it. I broke down in tears at the love she had for this extraordinary man. I have enjoyed knowing him all these years, talking with him, appreciating his friendly attitude and his wonderful sense of humor. Colorado Springs will be losing one of the greatest vets we have ever had and I personally will miss him very much. Good luck, Dr. Smith, and enjoy your retirement. Your gentle care and compassion has made life better for a lot of us and especially for our beloved pets. God bless you.
