I've been a member of the Charlotte Athletic Club since 2008 and it has ruined me for any other facility. The trainers and staff are great, and the group classes are very well run.
The layout and feel is just right. Serious enough to get a well focused workout, but nothing even remotely intimidating. The locker rooms and equipment are consistently clean (a must for a ""germophobe"" like me) and parking is easy (and validated!) Not much more I could ask for in a club.
Check it out and see for yourself. If you're like me, you'll find yourself actually looking forward to working out again. Hope this helps!
