We were planning a nice dinner with customers of mine this past Saturday evening. The place next door was packed and we had a bit of a wait...so, we saw an acoustical singer next door at Athena's....thought we'd check it out.
What a treat! The place was friendly and welcoming--even have a pool table and private lounge area. The owners made us feel like we were VIP's...they were incredibly friendly and made an AWESOME drink for my customer, who couldn't decide what to have...it was called the ""Mean Athena""!! She loved it.
After dinner we decided to go back for an after dinner drink....the dj was setting up and he played a mix of new with old....had a ball!!
Thanks to Peter and Athena for showing us the best part of dinner---service at the restaurant was both slow and unfriendly. We gave Athena's and A and Tupelo Honey a C-. See my review on that if you are interested.
This will become a place we stop in at each time we visit Asheville!! As for the drug use some other reviewer mentioned, we saw NONE of that and am actually offended by that comment. These two owners shared with us the difficulties of running a bar and having twins at home....these are just two Americans trying to make it in a tough economy!! Loved the place and drinks were both affordable and well poured....reminded us a little of New Orleans!!
