When we first hired Kevin Roberts to remodel our front and back yards, he was very friendly and seemed somewhat knowledgable about plants. Towards the end of the project, and approximately $100,000 later, I asked him to please put in some kind of barrier for the bamboo that he planted. He refused, saying it didn't need a barrier even though he acknowledged that he had never worked with bamboo before. I continued to ask him about it, and, in a fit of anger, had his crew dig up the bamboo and replant it in plastic containers that were then replanted into the ground. Within a month all of the bamboo was dead. We contacted a bamboo expert who dug up the bamboo and found that it was improperly planted and that the plastic pots also had some type of white packaging material inserted into the replanted bamboo. Of course, we had to go to the additional expense of having this taken care of. Nearly 50% of the plantings that Roberts installed in our yard died within a few months. He planted four huge evergreen trees in a very small space that was totally inappropriate for where they were installed. By the end of the job, he lost his temper and said our landscape remodel was a nothing job for him even though we paid a huge price for what we got. I didn't want white or lavender bushes, trees or flowers and ended up with exactly that. We wanted a mix of trees, and got a dozen maple trees which were exactly what I told him I didn't want with the exception of three of them. He planted shade plants in the sun and sun plants in the shade. When I asked for a plant list so I would know how to care for the plantings, he kept putting me off and I had to ask several times for that list. The lawn installation had to be completely redone by another company because he insisted the bog the lawn was planted in was due to our overwatering. We found out that the supposedly good soil brought in was nothing more than rocky clay which didn't allow the water to penetrate so it stayed on top of the ground. We ended up with several kinds of weeds from the installed soil that we never had before. This very expensive project went from a dream to a nightmare within a very short time. Pros: Friendly when first started job Cons: Will not accept homeowner's input
