Gave this company one star because there are no NEGATIVE stars! This is the crappiest company with which I have ever dealt!
I lived in an apartment and the meter was in the basement. No one in the building had a key to the basement, only the owner/landlord. However, when PGW had to get to the meter they refused to call the owner of the building and would only set up the appointment with me. This left me as the go-between, first calling my landlord to see what worked for him, then calling PGW to set up the appointment. Then because you are given a four hour time frame, and my landlord would not sit at the property for four hours waiting for PGW, again I had to do the go-between thing and call the landlord when PGW showed up. Of course then PGW is paying a tech to sit and wait for my landlord to come let her/him into the basement! (No wonder they charge the highest prices for natural gas of any city-owned company in the nation.) This went on for 2 years! I also got the calls about installing meters for a year, and when after months of being the go-between, PGW came and found out that it wasn't actually the meter in my apartment that needed replacing.
When I needed to move out, I had to go through the whole process again of being the go-between. After finally getting the schedules of my landlord and PGW together, I made an appointment to have the gas cut off on March 30th, sometime between 8 a.m. and noon. As I was already moved out of the apartment, and since PGW refused to call the landlord directly, I had to get up and be at the empty apartment by 8 a.m. I was there at 8 a.m.; I was there at noon; in fact I was there until 4 p.m. and PGW never showed! When I finally got through the damned phone tree at PGW I was informed that the tech was there and I wasn't! If the PGW tech came he must have just stood outside waiting for someone to somehow know that he was there. He did not knock on the door; he did not ring the doorbell, and he did not call as promised.
It took until April 10th (I moved out March 29th.) for me to convince PGW to finally call the actual owner of the property to get access to the basement.
To add insult to injury, I am having to pay the gas bill through April 10th! I don't even have the option of ignoring the bill because PGW is just deducting it from the ridiculous deposit they required to have the gas turned on, which was 4Xs the amount that I used every month! Now I understand why they do that. What a scam!
If you are new to Philly, PLEASE try to find another supplier of your natural gas, or only consider all-electric apartments!
