Cross-posted from my Google Maps business review:\r \r I have known Sensei Johnston of San Juan Shotokan, also know as Shoshin Karate-do of America, for nearly ten years and have been training in karate for nearly 15 years. I have not encountered a better teacher more deserving of a flourishing and vibrant dojo. His level of dedication is evident - he has spent over forty years of his life 100% dedicated to the martial art of Shotokan karate. He learned from the first Japanese instructors to leave Japan and spread karate as we know it today. His current dojo is a place where the discipline and honesty of karate has been incredibly preserved for those who still value it. Make no mistake though, classes are San Juan Shotokan are not a relic of the past. Sensei Johnston is always considering new interpretations and training techniques to make the karate you learn the best it can be.\r \r If you are looking for a Southern California karate dojo, please take the time to visit Sensei Johnston at his beautiful dojo. I think you'll see you won't receive more attention and nurturing anywhere else. He is also fantastic with kids - parents, please give Sensei Johnston a chance to teach your kids real karate. His instruction is the best bargain I know of in my fifteen years of involvement with karate. Pros: Highest level of instruction and a facility to match. My favorite dojo in 15 years of karate. Cons: None.
