I'm 23, I've been sexually active for a year, and I knew I needed to get birth control. My family makes about $30k a year. I decided to go on birth control pills. I'm not a student, so my cost was $56 for a first-time office visit ($80 usually), and the pills I were given were $22 a pack. It was a short medical exam (blood pressure, weight) and then I spoke to the doctor for a few minutes. I have not had a pap before. They gave me a years' prescription to start with. I called before my appointment to tell them about my income, and you should do the same for a faster visit. I was in and out of there in 40 minutes. They were all friendly, polite and helpful. I never felt ashamed or embarrassed. I was the only one there, too - but it was 9 am on a Saturday morning. You can also order birth control supplies online and have them shipped to where you would like. My advice? It's your body, do your homework and study up before you go here. Don't pester them with stupid or obvious questions that can be found on the Planned Parenthood site. Research and ask intelligent questions. Don't just show up to your appointment totally ignorant.
